Tag
A character or string connected to an item of
data, often at the beginning and end, that contains identifying information.
In HTML, a tag, or command, is placed before and after a text string to
identify the type size and other features of the data.
Telnet
The Internet standard protocol for remote terminal
connection service which allows a user at one site to interact with a
remote system at another site as if the user's terminal were connected
directly to the remote computer.
Template
A previously designed structure or shell into
which data may be placed. It provides a consistent look for graphical
presentations.
Toolbar
A collection of icons that activate program
functions in a graphical user interface (GUI)..
Touch Screen
A display or monitor that serves as a control
or input device that responds to the touch of a user.
Transfer Rate
The rate at which digital information is transferred
to or from a storage medium or device. For example, a single speed compact
disc reader transfers data at approximately 150 kilobytes per second..
True Color
This would be my definition. It would be short
and to the point, not trying to cover every facet of what the word means.
Perhaps I will create links to a resource page for a more thorough explanation
of this word or concept.
True Type
Describes color systems with enough colors to
create an image that looks natural to the human eye. It is typically defined
as 24-bit color.
UI
User Interface; software that facilitates communication
with a computer. It may consist of a single line on which commands are
entered, or it may consist of icons and many bars in a graphical user
interface (GUI).
Upload
To send a file to a networked host or to another
machine.
URL
Uniform Resource Locator; the address of a home
page on the World Wide Web.
User
The operator of a computer program.
User Friendly
Describes programs and systems that are designed
for ease of operation.
Utility Programs
Programs designed to support the operation of
software and hardware.
Vaporware
Proclaimed software that has not been released
or developed.
Vector Graphics
Line drawings. A vector display represents data
as line segments identified by the x-y coordinates of their end points.
Vertical Markets
Special groups that require products suited to
their needs. The medical profession is a vertical market with unique information
needs. By contrast, office management products are not highly differentiated.
WAV
A Microsoft DOS and Windows file extension, or
suffix, used to indicate a sound file made up of a set or digitized samples
representing waveforms that can be realized by a sound card.
White Balance
An adjustment made to a camera or other video
source so that a white object will produce the proper signal.
WYSIWYG
What You See Is What You Get; a graphic display
mode in some desktop publishing applications in which the page on the
screen shows exactly how the printed or Web published page will appear.

Write
To move data from one physical place to another
or from one medium to another.
WWW
World Wide Web; a virtual space accessible from
the Internet that holds "pages" of text and graphics, all constructed
in HTML, linked to one another and to individual files.
XML
Extensible Style Language; a new standard for
marking up documents and data. XML is based on SGML, but with a reduced
feature set that is more appropriate for distribution via the Web. XML
allows authors to create customized tag sets to provide functionality
not available with HTML.
